Can CEO Credibility Boost Employee Engagement?

We have discussed in the previous post, based on Linjuan RitaMen’s research, that CEO credibility highly impacts the image of a company, but that’s not all! A CEO who is deemed as trustworthy nurtures positive employee evaluation of the company; hence, “fosters employee engagement and organizational involvement, as well as enthusiasm and passion for work.”

Employee engagement, according to the author, is when a worker becomes psychologically present when doing his/her job, and actively employs his/her cognition, emotion, and behavior.

A strong organizational reputation is strongly associated with employee engagement. Therefore, it is paramount to make sure that the company's image is strong internally in the first place. For instance, workers with a favorable evaluation of organizational reputation, who have good feelings like admiration, trust and respect, towards the firm, “are more likely to reciprocate with a greater level of engagement in the organization.” Add to that, a CEO who leads effectively, offers a healthy working environment, communicates internally, shares clear goals, vision and mission, motivates others, and celebrates achievements, will guarantee improved staff confidence and positive corporate evaluation. All these little 'tricks' will make the job more enjoyable for your employees; accordingly, they will be ready to give more, contribute more, and engage more!

If you wish to ensure a positive employee evaluation and an increased confidence in the company, make sure that, as an employer, you exercise:

  • Good workforce management
  • Fair treatment
  • Communication
  • Coaching
  • Positivity
  • Including workers in your vision
  • Asking for feedback
  • Showing your human side
Do not forget to ‘behaviorally’ engage the staff in dialogues, decision making, organizational activities, and development, which extremely affects organizational effectiveness too.
